Al-Ghaza, the crowded area in the northeast of Masjid al-Haram, said goodbye to historical markets and towering towers over many years, to be replaced by places for pedestrians and car parking, and spaces to the northern courtyards of Masjid al-Haram in the framework of the development plan. Add it.
Al-Ghaza area is considered one of the oldest central areas of Makkah in terms of history and construction, and it housed historical markets since ancient times and became one of the most important commercial areas, so that the most famous historical markets of Makkah are Among them, Al-Mudaei Bazaar in the west and Al-Lil Bazaar in the south, Al-Kabir Bazaar and Halqa Al-Qadimah are located there.
Before the period of economic boom, 40 years ago, “Al-Ghazah” street was the only street in Makkah in terms of having the largest sales centers for electronic and electrical devices and the latest and most advanced brands of watches and cosmetics, as well as medical offices, restaurants and cafes. In a corner of this street, “Alzal” market was located.
The reason why this street is called al-Ghaza is because it has been a place of residence for Palestinian pilgrims from Gaza since ancient times, and in the last twenty years it has become an area of hotels and accommodation centers for Umrah pilgrims.
The past beauty of Al-Ghaza Street was destroyed with the destruction of the last part of the property that was included in the grand development plan in the history of Al-Haram Mosque, so that the Al-Ghaza area will experience a peace that was unprecedented in the past from the beginning of the next Ramadan Umrah. In the past, noise and traffic was a prominent feature of this area, but the upcoming Ramadan will be a new station in the history of Al-Ghaza region, so that it has become empty spaces of construction in the framework of the development plan of the northern and western courtyards of the Grand Mosque, which will add scenes Its area is 380 square meters and there will be tunnels for pedestrians and other service stations with an area of more than 300,000 meters so that the Holy Shrine of Mecca enters a new stage of development that includes its surrounding courtyards.
This project will provide new and spacious places for worshipers in Baitullah Al-Haram to perform prayers and will help to solve the problem of crowding during prayer times, especially during Hajj and Umrah seasons, as well as the month of Ramadan (which is one of the busiest Umrah seasons). .
Yusuf Al-Wabel, the deputy of the service department of Masjid al-Haram, told Okaz newspaper that the spaces created after the demolition of the properties in the north of Masjid al-Haram will be prepared for the worshipers during the Umrah season of Ramadan, and these places will be connected to each other with loudspeakers. He predicted that such measures would increase the capacity of the northern courtyards of the Grand Mosque to about 100,000 worshipers.
