Yvette Cooper, a member of the British Labor Party, said in an interview with the BBC state media on April 20: “This issue should not continue, in my opinion the English drivers should not go and the Formula One races in Bahrain should not continue.”

Cooper said: “There, pro-democracy protesters who hold demonstrations are violently repressed, and although that is something that sport should decide on, not the government, I think government ministers can also have an opinion. That opinion should be that this is an issue. It should not continue because it sends the wrong message and this should not happen.”

This is while the slogan of pro-democracy protesters can be seen on protest placards all over Manama, the capital of Bahrain, and it is: “Don’t compete for our blood.”

On the other hand, the forces of the Bahrain regime are using tear gas, sound bombs and shrapnel during the repression of the protesters in this country.

Media reports indicate that with the increase in security measures in Bahrain due to the holding of Formula One races in this country, regime forces injured several protesters in Shiite villages.

However, John Yates, one of the former London Metropolitan Police officers who went to this country to advise Bahrain’s police forces, claimed that Bahrain is calm and ready to host the Formula One Grand Prix.

However, Douglas Alexander, one of the opponents of the British government and the minister of foreign affairs in the shadow government of this country, has called for the cancellation of the tournament in Bahrain and said: “Officials of Formula One should cancel the Bahrain races.”
