Thousands of Egyptian demonstrators gathered in Cairo’s Azadi Square on Friday (July 24) regardless of the threats of the military council of this country to prevent the demonstration.
More than 28 popular movements in Egypt had called for demonstrations to put pressure on the military rulers of this country.
The Revolutionary Youth Coalition had named this day “Friday of Ending the Hujjat”.
Demonstrators say that they demand more reforms and the immediate trial of Hosni Mubarak, the former president of Egypt, and his accomplices and officials.
Demonstrators also emphasize the need to transfer power from military rulers to an elected and democratic government.
Since last week, thousands of Egyptians have started an indefinite strike in Cairo’s Azadi Square, Alexandria and Suez city and have sworn to continue the strike until their demands are fully realized.
Egyptian demonstrators chant slogans against the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces of this country and demand the removal of Hossein Tantawi, the head of the Supreme Council of the Egyptian Armed Forces.
The Revolutionary Youth Coalition has also warned that the delay in meeting the demands of the people will deepen the gap between the ruling military council and the revolutionaries.
After the fall of Hosni Mubarak, the President of the Republic of Egypt, the Military Council has taken over the administration of the affairs of this country. Many Egyptians believe that the military council is trying to divert the revolution of the people of this country from its path.
The sit-ins in Cairo are demanding the cleansing of the government and security apparatuses of the Mubarak regime’s affiliates, and the trial of those accused of killing people during the demonstrations.
On the other hand, the parties and officials of the Egyptian revolutionary groups in a statement called for the immediate resignation of Essam Sharaf’s government and the formation of a National Salvation government to remove the powers of the military council.
