Referring to the current developments in the region and the growing power of Iran, the former US ambassador to the United Nations emphasized that the Middle East is no longer a safe place for America.
“John Bolton” wrote in an article published in the American newspaper “Wall Street Journal”: Ever since the Arab uprisings began in Tunisia four months ago, the American media has consistently and generally optimistically focused on the unrest in the Middle East.
This former American official, who is now a senior member of the “American Enterprise” think tank, and like other White House officials, is concerned about the spread of Iran’s Islamic Revolution doctrine in the Middle East region, continued: Iran’s hegemonic goals are manifested in the rapidly expanding nuclear program and the continuation of overthrows in the Middle East region.
He mentioned the establishment of the pro-Hezbollah government in Lebanon as an example to expand Iran’s influence in the region. On the other hand, Bolton, who has been one of the staunch defenders of the theory of regime change regarding Iran, pointed to Syria and the unrest in this country and wrote: Regime change in Syria is very unlikely.
The former representative of the United States in the United Nations further pointed to the protests of Bahrain and the fifth fleet of the United States in this country and wrote: The real tip of the arrow in the Middle East may be Bahrain, home to the US Fifth Fleet. This country, which no longer has much oil wealth, is a small kingdom separated from Saudi Arabia by only one passage. The popular demonstrations in Bahrain showed a potentially severe difference between America’s principles and its strategic interests. Iran happily supports the holding of free elections in Bahrain, which will probably install a pro-Iranian government.
He added: The forces that came from Bahrain’s neighboring countries led by Saudi Arabia helped Bahrain to severely suppress the Shiite protests. These pro-American royal regimes were shaken by the removal of Hosni Mubarak, a long-time ally of the United States, which also affected the planned withdrawal of American forces from Iraq and the planned reduction of forces in Afghanistan. Bolton continued: There is no evidence that Obama has a strategy to deal with the ongoing threat of Iran in the Persian Gulf region, which extends to Yemen.
This former American official pointed to the progress of Iran’s nuclear program and called it military. According to this, Iran’s nuclear program is moving forward with full force. Iran’s nuclear capability will undoubtedly encourage Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey and perhaps other countries to acquire their own portable nuclear weapons.
He added: Therefore, we will witness a region that will basically be more in Iran’s circle and more unstable and dangerous for Washington and its allies.
The senior member of the American Enterprise think tank emphasized: In addition, America’s failure to stop Iran’s nuclear program will be a major blow to America’s influence.

Bolton wrote at the end: The Arab rise may be attractive and beguiling, and it may or may not be sustainable, but the sad thing is that the threat of Iranian hegemony seems much more sustainable.
