According to the AFP news agency, the former president of the United States warned against the possibility of a military attack by the United States on Iran and criticized the fact that the United States is involved in unjust conflicts.
Carter raised this issue in a meeting attended by 20 Nobel Peace Prize winners in Chicago, USA.
He, who held the presidency of the United States from 1977 to 1981, said: I am not against war when it is necessary, but the conditions for fair war are not available most of the time.
Carter continued: War is just when it is used only as a last resort. That is, when he used every possible and peaceful solution. When every effort is made to protect civilians, when the purpose of war is to improve the situation and not to make it worse.
The former US president explained: This issue does not fit with the way that the United States has taken on hand-to-hand warfare in recent years.
He added: America has always and continuously in the last 60 years in a state of war with Korea, Vietnam, Mongolia, El Salvador, Libya, Panama, Haiti, Yugoslavia, Iraq, Afghanistan and other areas have been located. Of course, we are also thinking of a military attack on Iran. Most of these wars did not have the characteristics of a just war and even some of them were not necessary.
Carter continued: I hope that America will be the champion of peace and take the lead in protecting the environment and work more generously than others in providing food for the hungry and deal with human rights violations. This is not a wish.
